Introduction to Home Energy Storage Power Sources

With the popularity of renewable energy, more and more households are considering using energy storage systems to store excess electricity. This not only helps reduce the load on the power grid, but also provides backup power during power outages. When designing a home energy storage system, the following key points need to be considered.

1. Battery capacity

The battery capacity is usually expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh). This is the total amount of energy that the battery can store. For example, the actual charge and discharge capacity of a 5.12 kWh lithium battery is about 4.6 kWh. During design, the actual available capacity (4.6 kWh) should be used as a parameter. This capacity depends on the battery type, manufacturer, and design purpose.

2. Maximum charging and discharging power

The maximum charging and discharging power of a battery is closely related to system performance. If not designed properly, it may affect system performance. The maximum charging power is related to the component power, and the maximum discharging power is related to the load power consumption. For example, if only one set of batteries is equipped, it can only accept a maximum of 3 kW of photovoltaic module charging, and the maximum discharge power is also limited by the load power consumption.

3. Rated voltage of battery

The voltage of the battery varies with the discharge current. In the absence of current, the voltage is highest. The optimal battery capacity for lithium batteries is between 40% and 60%. Batteries with a factory capacity of around 50% can be stored for more than a year, with a voltage still above 3.2 V and a recovery capacity of over 98%.

4. Load demand

The design of home energy storage systems should determine battery capacity based on load demand. You need to consider the average daily electricity consumption of your household and the load that needs to be powered during power outages. If you have solar panels, you also need to consider the amount of electricity they generate.

5. Cycle life

The lifespan of a battery is usually measured by the number of cycles or years. Different types of batteries have different lifetimes. In the design, the lifespan of the battery and the cost of replacement should be considered.

How much is the average household energy storage capacity?

The general range of household energy storage varies depending on household demand. Generally speaking, a medium-sized household may require a battery capacity of 5kWh to 10 kWh. This is sufficient to cope with brief power outages while also storing excess solar power. However, the specific electricity demand should be determined based on your household's electricity usage and budget. There are different capacities available from 5KWH to 30KWH for customers to choose from.
